On Sunday 11th June, a native son of our parish, Billy Caulfield will be ordained priest for ministry in the Diocese of Ferns by Bishop Denis Brennan in Horeswood Parish church. This is a day of celebration and indeed a happy occasion for our parish. I know that you will join with me in wishing Billy every happiness and blessing in his priestly ministry. I also ask you to keep Billy in your prayers not only in the days leading up to his ordination but also in the years ahead as we priests need the support and prayers of our people particularly in the society and culture that we live in today.
Over the past few months we have been making preparations for Billy’s ordination. The choir have been practising for many weeks and I am sure they will do us proud on the day. The ceremony will take place at 3.00pm and it is a public celebration. I hope that you will join with us in making it a truly memorable occasion. The ordination ceremony is a beautiful and moving liturgy and I am sure that parishioners who attend on Sunday 11th June will find it to be a joyful religious experience.
I would also like to congratulate and thank Billy’s family, especially his parents Liam and Ann for giving the gift of their son Billy to priesthood and for ministry in the Diocese of Ferns. Vocations normally come from committed Catholic families and I thank Liam and Ann for the witness they have shown to their Christian faith.
On Monday 12th June Billy will celebrate his First Mass at 7.00pm in Horeswood parish church and afterwards he will impart his first blessing. Again, I invite you to join with us in celebrating this wonderful day in Billy’s life.
On behalf of all parishioners I congratulate and welcome Billy as a brother priest and I pray God’s blessing on his priestly ministry.
