COVID – 19
In order to follow and adhere to Government norms I have reluctantly decided to suspend all public Masses with the exception of funerals in Horeswood and Ballykelly with immediate effect. The Obligation to physically attend Mass on Sundays and Holy Days (including St Patrick’s Day) is suspended until further notice.
The Irish Bishops’ Conference has issued guidelines in relation to the celebration of Baptism which will continue to be followed. Only immediate family should attend the celebration of Baptism. People who might be susceptible to severe reactions to the virus should not attend.
We appreciate that bereavement is a very sensitive time in the life of any family and that the support of friends and neighbours is an integral part of the grieving and healing process. This has involved the tradition of expressing sympathy by attendance at the funeral rites and making physical contact with the bereaved. In the light of the guidelines received we ask that only immediate family and close friends would attend the funeral liturgy, observing the protocols already mentioned. At such a time as this, a thoughtful card or note expressing sympathy might be effective in expressing our solidarity with the bereaved.
I will continue to celebrate Mass privately and pray especially for the sick and those who are worried over the Coronavirus.
While Masses are suspended, the voice of prayer should not be silent.
The Church will remain open during the day and parishioners are welcome to come in and pray and I know that many will come and want to say a prayer,
Mass will be celebrated on South East Radio and celebrated on Webcam in the following parishes
St Aidan’s Cathedral, Enniscorthy
St Michael Parish, Gorey
St Aidan’s Church, Ferns
Church of the Holy Trinity, Bunclody
Knock Shrine, Co Mayo
A PRAYER IN THE TIME OF THE CORONA VIRUS
By Fr. Brian Grogan S.J.
Dear God, in 1879 the Apparition at Knock gave hope and courage to the people of Ireland in difficult times.
We ask that Our Lady may now protect your beloved people from the Corona Virus.
May its victims be strengthened by the spiritual support of the Christian community and restored soon to full health.
We also pray for the medical personnel who deal with the virus.
This we ask in confidence through Christ Our Lord. Amen.
Our Lady of Knock pray for us.
St. Joseph pray for us.
St. John the Evangelist pray for us. Amen
